So I don't watch a lot of mecha anime, This anime would have to be my second and in fact my first Mecha anime “Full Metal Panic” was always set on earth with very non-flashy Mecha  Taking this under consideration I’m not too sure if my opinions on this anime will be very good but I shall give it a shot.

So the story and setting seems interesting enough, humans are more teched up, its probably the future, we may not live on earth anymore, aliens attack us ETC. I like the whole using a team of five hopeless people who utterly become heroes due to a badass fight. The way that the team become losers and pathetic afterwards leaves me questioning how things will turn out for them. They definitely have potential and strength that will most likely be harnessed and they will probably learn to utilize their true strength (gosh that sounded lame). The 5 mains seem to all have different personalities but compliment each other, when you think about it they aren’t really different its just that they share only ` trait each, for example: Toshikazu and Kei are serious, calm and at times dull. Tamaki and Ataru are both silly and look for romance/ are interested in the opposite sex. This leaves the TRUE protagonist to possibly be Izuru (also because he’s the leader).

Again due to my inexperience in Mecha, I’m not too sure on this but I believe that the art is very abstract and different/unique, even at the start I felt like this was more of a cartoon than an anime style art form. However as I watched further I realised that the art is to smoothen out the contrasting transitions from the space fights with Mecha and the character interactions. I grew to actually like the art and I think it suits the anime quite well. The Mecha fights are flashy and give you a look of awe and the fights are fast but easy to understand. The comedy is also pretty funny and fits well into the anime.

I actually really liked this anime, I’m not too sure if it's the Mecha genre that I have found a new liking to. I was intending to watch the new Evangelion remake movies because I wasn't too fond of the old age animations, anyway I never ended up watching it. My friend dragged me into watching Gundam Seed and I didn't like it very much, I quit a couple of minutes in to it. Never the less I like this anime, the fighting and action is nice as well as the interactions with the characters. I definitely recommend this anime.

Personal Note: my favorite character would have to be Toshikazu because he seems quite cool and collected, his Mecha looks cool, and it has the fastest acceleration and it has blades. I actually thought that Toshikazu was the protagonist at the very start. I noticed that when Ataru was watching those videos the comments were set up like a Nico Nico Douga video where they fly across the screen. At the start when the instructor was giving out the lollipops before the mission and Ataru asked if it was possible if he could get the one in her mouth I immediately thought “WOAH THAT IS TOTALLY LIKE ME, I WOULD HAVE SAID THE EXACT THING” I really wanted to ship Toshikazu and Kei but it looks like the anime wants it to be more of a Kei X Izuru. I also like the head mechanic for obvious reasons, ;)

Rating: so far…. 9 out of 10
