RDG: Red Data Girl First Impression

Episodes Watched: 1, 2 & 3, Subber Used: Commie

Ok so when I read the summary of this I thought it would be an interesting anime mostly because I’m actually really into anything relating to Japanese Shinto and Buddhism. So the plot for this anime is really thrown around but the way the protagonist knows nothing as well kinda makes everything seem like its okay to feel like you don't know anything. The anime starts off pretty slowly in terms of both story and character introduction, after the first episode I’m still didn't quite understand much besides the overall gist of it, but that probably all they intend you to understand. I like the heavy ideas and thoughts behind the anime, for example the way Izumiko is outcast-ed by most of her classmates and how Miyuki was beat heavily by Yukimasa. The whole unknown darkness cloaked figures give a nice sense of mystery and fear. There is no doubt that this anime is a serious story relient anime without much of a combat element, never the less there are some good leaning moments like the incident with Wamiya. The characters are well divided between each other, but its simply Izumiko being a shy afraid hopeless girl and everyone else being normal. Izumiko will probably develop into a more outgoing and courageous character as the story develops, but before then it seems that Miyuki will be the one protecting her.

The art to this anime is a very pleasant and clean New age type art, the art isn't the same as other anime but it isn’t different so that it looks unseen. I actually really like this form of animation but that doesn't mean that abstractly animated anime is bad. The nature and background like most new age animated anime looks a lot better than the characters but they go so well together that each part is complimented by each other. The anime has moments when a lot of good transitions take place like when Izumiko was moved underwater in the computer incident at the start, or when she was surrounded by darkness.

The anime doesn't seem to appealing at first and I know that many people would probably drop it after the first or second episode due to this. However this may be I recommend you give the anime some time and let it unravel on its own. If you really can’t stand it then just drop it, its very understandable when an anime just doesn't feel right with you.

Personal Note: I kinda want to Ship Izumiko and Miyuki and see them develop as a couple. I also want to see Miyuki go full out cool guy and do some sort of amazing battle thing, but then again I want many things that cant happen –sigh-

Rating: so far…. 8/10
